The Hotel Vancouver wears its fabled green-gabled copper roof like a crown, proudly defining its namesake city's cosmopolitan skyline. Stone griffins and gargoyles decorate the French Renaissance facade, capturing the whimsy and splendor of days long past.

Upon its opening in 1939, the hotle's premier guests included King George VI, the first reigning sovereign to visit Canada. Hundreds of other luminaries followed in his regal footsteps. During th '50s and '60s, movie stars and prominent politicos dined and danced at the hotel's Panorama Roof lounge, a legendary nightspot with 360-degree views.

More than 60 years later, visitors find a harmonious blend of Georgian-era glamour and high-tech innovation in the heart of downtown Vancouver. A seven-years, $65 million renovation by Canadian Pacific Hotels included faithful restoration of the grand lobby, the Pacific Ballroom, and the Royal Suite. At the same time, the renovation established a professionally staffed, computer-stocked work center on the mezzanine.

Guests traveling on business appreciate the wide choice in state-of-the-art conference facilities, equipped for everything from intimate soirees to large gatherings. And everyone loves the full-service recreation center with its modern exercise room, glass-enclosed indoor pool, whirlpool and suna, tanning beds, and outdoor sundecks.

Leisure travelers discover the city's finest sights right at their feet. They reah 1,000-acre Stanley Park, the nightspots of Gastown, and posh Robson Street shopping within minutes of the hotel. Or, right at home, they browse through nine elegant shops, including branches of Bally's and Louis Vuitton, and a wonderful selection of bars and restaurants.

The award-winning Lobby Lounge and Wine Bar, with over 300 vintages in its cellar, helps solidify the hotel's well-earned reputation as one of the city's prime meet-and-greet spots. Meanwhile, the hotel's signature restaurant, 900 West, treats fashionable diners to a menu of distinctive Canadian cuisine. Another high-style bistro, Griffins, entertains with light fare.

Spacious and comfortable guest rooms feature every modern convenience, from cordless phones to modem hookups, work desks, and terry robes. The Entree Gold floor adds a virtual hotel within a hotel, where the VIP service and amenities include private check-in, dedicated concierge service, use of an executive boardroom, and an open invitation to a private lounge featureing complimentary Continental breakfast and evening canapes.
